To ensure you’re perfectly prepared for your moment in the spotlight at Hollywood Dance Jamz, the detailed schedule of routines and performance times will be available five days prior to the event’s commencement. This schedule will be posted on the Registration Portal, providing ample time for you to finalize your plans. While we strive to adhere strictly to the published schedule, please be aware that Hollywood Dance Jamz reserves the right to run up to one hour ahead of schedule. It’s crucial to be ready to perform during your allocated time slot. The Hollywood Dance Jamz competition operates in numerical order, but to maintain a smooth flow and avoid delays, you may be asked to compete out of sequence. Should a routine be unable to perform before its scheduled awards session for any reason, it will still have the opportunity to perform for valuable judges’ comments and will receive its adjudicated award, although it will unfortunately not be eligible for an overall award in such circumstances.

Music Submission Guidelines

For a seamless performance experience at Hollywood Dance Jamz, all music tracks must be uploaded through the Registration Portal before arriving at your registered convention city. This portal serves as the central hub for accessing and playing music during the Competition. While digital submission is mandatory, we strongly recommend bringing a backup copy of your music on a jump drive. This precautionary measure will safeguard against any unforeseen system malfunctions, ensuring your performance can proceed without interruption.

Understanding Scoring and Awards

Adjudication Scoring System at Hollywood Dance Jamz (Based on Average Score from 3 Judges):

Hollywood Dance Jamz employs a detailed adjudication scoring system, providing valuable feedback and recognition for every performance. Here’s a breakdown of the scoring tiers:

That’s My Jam!: 97.5% – 100% – Representing exceptional performances that truly stand out.
Platinum: 94.5% – 97% – Signifying outstanding performances with remarkable skill and artistry.
High Gold: 91.5% – 94% – Awarded to performances demonstrating excellent technique and presentation.
Gold: 88.5% – 91% – Recognizing solid performances with good execution and potential.
High Silver: 85.5% – 88% – Indicating promising performances with developing skills.
Silver: 85% and below – Representing performances with areas for growth and improvement.

Performance Awards: Every routine at Hollywood Dance Jamz receives a performance award based on the adjudication system, reflecting their score on a 100-point scale. This ensures every participant is acknowledged for their hard work and dedication.

Divisional Overall Awards: Hollywood Dance Jamz celebrates top talent within each age division. 1st through 3rd place overall awards are presented to the highest-scoring routines in each age division (Mini, Junior, Pre-Teen, Teen, and Senior) across various categories including Solo, Duet/Trio, Small Group, Large Group, Line, and Production Divisions. This recognizes excellence within peer groups.

Overall High Score Awards: For the pinnacle of achievement, Overall Awards are bestowed upon the highest-scoring routine in each age division (Mini, Junior, Pre-Teen, Teen, and Senior), regardless of category. These awards highlight the absolute best performances of the competition.

*Detailed score sheets and valuable judges’ critiques will be readily accessible through the Registration Portal on the Sunday following the Competition. This allows for constructive feedback and continued growth.

Faculty Choice and Special Recognitions

Beyond scores, Hollywood Dance Jamz also features prestigious Faculty Choice Awards. These special awards recognize outstanding achievements in specific areas, including:

Outstanding Choreography: Celebrating innovative and captivating dance routines.
Most Entertaining: Honoring performances that captivate and engage the audience.
Best Costume: Recognizing visually stunning and thematically appropriate costumes.
Best Direction: Acknowledging exceptional staging and overall performance direction.
Judges’ Choice Awards!: Special recognitions from the judging panel for unique and memorable performances.

Important Competition Policies

To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all participants at Hollywood Dance Jamz, please take note of the following essential competition policies:

Early Registration is Highly Recommended: Space is limited, and entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Competition registration closes 30 days prior to the event, or earlier if sold out. Register promptly to secure your spot!
Strict No Videotaping and Flash Photography Policy: To protect the privacy of performers and maintain a professional environment, videotaping and flash photography of any kind are strictly prohibited during performances.
Studio Check Submission: Please submit one studio check for all entry fees per studio. Alternatively, you can call the office at (567) 825-3857 to pay via credit card. All entry fees are non-refundable.
No Faxed or Emailed Registrations: To streamline the registration process, only online registrations through the portal are accepted. No faxed or emailed registrations will be processed.
Limited Changes to Entries: No changes to competition entries will be permitted within 10 days prior to the competition. Please finalize your entries well in advance.
Competition Start Times Vary: Be aware that competition start times may differ from city to city. Friday competitions are a possibility, so plan your travel accordingly.
Convention Registration Requirement: To be eligible to compete at Hollywood Dance Jamz, all participants must also be registered for the convention. This ensures a holistic and enriching dance experience.
Wristband Requirement: All competitors must wear their official convention wristband throughout the competition for identification and access.
Per Performer, Per Entry Fees: All fees listed in each division are per performer, per entry. Please calculate your fees accurately.
Accuracy of Information: Providing incorrect information during registration may lead to disqualification. Double-check all details before submitting.
Age Verification: Teachers/owners must have birth certificates or proof of age readily available in case of any age disputes.
Family-Friendly Content: All routines must be appropriate for family viewing. Failure to adhere to this may result in score deductions or disqualification, at the discretion of the judges and Hollywood Dance Jamz Directors.
Sportsmanship: All participants and observers are expected to conduct themselves with good sportsmanship, demonstrating respect and courtesy towards fellow dancers and staff.
Dressing Room Policies: Photography and videography are strictly prohibited in dressing rooms to ensure privacy. Furthermore, males are not permitted in the ladies’ dressing room area.
No Teacher Participation: For fair competition and to maintain focus on student performers, teachers are not allowed to perform with students in routines.
Image and Recording Consent: By participating in this competition, all contestants automatically grant Hollywood Dance Jamz consent to use images, pictures, or any other form of electronic recording for advertising or any other commercial purposes.
Public Viewing: The competition is open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis for spectators.
Lift and Prop Restrictions: General lifts are permitted, but pyramids or basket tosses are not allowed for safety reasons. Mini tramps, springboards, and similar equipment are also prohibited. Props exceeding 6 feet in height or requiring more than 1 minute of assembly time need special clearance. Contact the office at (567) 825-3857 for approval.
Rule Infractions: Any rule infractions will be determined by the judges and Hollywood Dance Jamz Directors.
Disqualification for Rule Violations: Violation of any rules may result in disqualification from the competition.
Event Cancellation Rights: Hollywood Dance Jamz reserves the right to cancel events based on enrollment numbers.
Judges’ Decisions are Final: Participants will be judged by a panel of highly qualified judges who are also part of the HDJ Faculty. All participants agree that the judging process, including time, manner, and method, is solely at the discretion of the judges and Hollywood Dance Jamz Directors, and all decisions are final.
Group Performance Adjustments: In the event a dancer in a group cannot perform due to injury, the group may still perform in the same division they originally registered.

Assumption of Risk: Participants acknowledge and accept the inherent risks of physical injury associated with dance and dance performances. By entering this event, it is agreed that participants will not hold Hollywood Dance Jamz or its employees liable for any injuries sustained or illnesses contracted while attending and/or performing in any activity related to a Hollywood Dance Jamz event.
