Yanira Castro / A Canary Torsi: “Exorcism = Liberation”
Continuing its powerful run since July, “Exorcism = Liberation,” conceived by Yanira Castro and a team of collaborators, is a far-reaching public art and performance initiative. This project serves as a call for collective change, featuring immersive and participatory events across various locations in New York, Illinois, and Massachusetts. The Joyce Theater: A Cornucopia of Dance Styles
From September through December, The Joyce Theater presents a rich and varied program of dance, showcasing a wide array of styles and premieres. London City Ballet will grace the Joyce stage with four U.S. debuts, marking their first international tour in over three decades (Sept. 17-22). The Limón Dance Company’s season (Nov. 5-10) will feature a captivating new work by Kayla Farrish, reimagining two lost dances by the legendary José Limón. Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s 30th anniversary celebration (Nov. 19-Dec. 1) will include a retrospective dedicated to Dwight Rhoden, the company’s artistic director, renowned for his signature sinuous and dynamic choreography. And for a dose of humor, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, the beloved drag ensemble, commemorates 50 years of playfully skewering ballet. Their New York debut of Durante Verzola’s “Symphony” promises a comedic take on George Balanchine’s delightful “Symphony in C” (Dec. 17-Jan. 5). New York City Ballet: Celebrating Anniversaries
Following its own momentous 75th anniversary, New York City Ballet continues the celebration with a season focused on significant milestones. The company will commemorate 90 years of the School of American Ballet, its esteemed affiliated school, as well as the 50th anniversary of George Balanchine and Alexandra Danilova’s charming “Coppélia.” This season also marks the 10th anniversary of Justin Peck’s role as resident choreographer. Adding to the excitement, the annual fall fashion gala on October 9th will feature a world premiere by Caili Quan, with costumes designed by Gilles Mendel.
