Family of Stephen “tWitch” Boss Shares Feelings on Memoir Details

The family of the beloved Stephen “tWitch” Boss, known to many as a vibrant dancer and the ever-positive DJ on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” has publicly addressed their emotions regarding the intimate details shared in Allison Holker’s recent memoir, “This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light.” This marks the first time family members have spoken out since Boss’s tragic passing in 2022.

In a candid interview with Gayle King on “CBS Mornings,” Stephen “tWitch” Boss’s mother, Connie Boss Alexander, and his brother, Dre Rose, conveyed their sentiments about Holker’s memoir. While acknowledging Holker’s right to share her story, they expressed feeling blindsided by the public nature and specific revelations within the book, particularly as it became a prominent feature in media outlets like People magazine. The family’s relationship with Holker, Stephen’s wife and mother to his three children, has become strained as they navigate this sensitive period.

Dre Rose articulated the family’s surprise, stating, “We shouldn’t have to find out about that…in the media. We’re a family,” highlighting their discomfort with learning personal details through public channels rather than directly. Holker’s memoir reportedly includes entries from Stephen’s private journals and accounts of their final moments together, adding to the family’s complex emotions.

Both Alexander and Dre Rose expressed a desire to read Stephen’s journals themselves. Alexander shared, “[Just] to feel closer to him, ’cause these are his thoughts,” indicating a longing to understand her son’s inner world and experiences. Dre Rose echoed this sentiment, believing the journals hold crucial insights into Stephen’s life, both the joys and struggles. He voiced a concern about potential “cherry-picking” of journal content for the memoir, advocating for a complete and honest portrayal of Stephen’s reflections.

In response to the public discourse surrounding her memoir, Holker addressed concerns in an Instagram story on January 8th. She stated, “I want to be clear that my only intention in writing the book is to share my own story as well as part of my life with Stephen to help other people.” This statement underscores her perspective on the memoir as a means of sharing her journey and offering support to others who may be experiencing similar challenges.

The interview with Connie Boss Alexander and Dre Rose aired on “CBS Mornings” on February 11th, offering a platform for the family to share their perspective and honor the legacy of Stephen “tWitch” Boss, a celebrated dancer and personality whose impact reached far beyond the stage and screen.
