Sean Viator Dancer Died: Remembering a Bright Light in the Dance World

The dance community is mourning the loss of Sean Christopher Viator, a talented and passionate dancer and choreographer who passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the age of 31. Born on July 12, 1992, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Viator’s infectious kindness, humor, and genuine spirit touched everyone he met, leaving an enduring impact on the world of dance and beyond.

From his early years, Viator’s passion for dance was evident. After graduating from St. Michael the Archangel High School, he pursued his dreams at the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. His dedication and natural talent propelled him into a successful career as a professional dancer and choreographer. Viator’s creative nature and unwavering resilience were key to his rise in the competitive dance industry, fostering strong connections and lasting friendships throughout his journey.

Viator’s professional achievements speak volumes about his skill and dedication. He graced the stage alongside award-winning music icons such as Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Sam Smith, and Demi Lovato. His captivating performances were featured on prominent platforms, including American Idol and the Billboard Music Awards. A highlight of his career was his long-standing role with the legendary Radio City Rockettes in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, where he brought holiday magic to countless audiences. His versatility extended to the vibrant stages of Las Vegas, with performances in Jubilee at Bally’s and Showstoppers at the Wynn, and even a charity performance with Cirque du Soleil in One Drop at the Mirage.

Beyond performing, Viator was committed to nurturing the next generation of dancers. He generously shared his expertise and passion as a teacher and choreographer at renowned institutions like Millennium Dance Complex and Broadway Dance Center, inspiring countless students with his artistry and guidance. An advocate for dancers’ rights, Viator was an active member of SAG-AFTRA and Bloc Talent Agency, championing fair treatment and recognition within the dance profession. He was also a proud alumnus of De Frances Academy of Dance, a testament to his foundational training and commitment to his craft.

Sean Viator was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Rose Marie Viator, and his maternal grandparents, Gordon and Eva Dale Daigle. He is survived by his loving family: father Todd Viator, stepmother Jennifer Viator, mother Celeste Viator, Terry Ingraffia; sisters Natalie Abshier (Joshua) and Stephanie Sturgeon (Reed); brother Christopher VanDreumel; nieces Piper and Penelope Abshier; and grandfather Kenward Viator.

In honor of Sean Viator’s legacy and his profound love for dance, his family has established a dance scholarship in his name at The University of Arizona School of Dance in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, donations to this scholarship are gratefully welcomed, ensuring that his passion continues to inspire future dancers.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, offering an opportunity for all who knew and loved Sean to come together and remember his vibrant spirit. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite colors to celebrate Sean’s life in a joyful and uplifting way. Sean Viator’s memory will forever be cherished by the dance community and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
