Discover the Premier New York Pole Dance Studio: Empowering Women Through Fitness and Art

Wendy Traskos stands out as a powerhouse in the pole dancing community. More than just an incredibly strong and captivating dancer, she is the entrepreneurial force behind the renowned New York Pole Dancing Studio, Climb and Spin, and the United States Pole Dancing Federation. Interestingly, this icon of strength and grace faced early setbacks, not even making her high school cheerleading team despite a background in competitive gymnastics and her sister Tracy’s presence on the squad. This initial challenge, coupled perhaps with a childhood shaped by a military father’s discipline, may have fueled Wendy’s drive to explore uncharted territories, areas where she could define her own rules.

From Personal Challenges to Pole Dancing Pioneer

While her sister, Tracy, pursued Community Health Education and became a respected figure in bodybuilding and fitness, Wendy charted her own course. A pivotal moment came in her final year of high school when her parents presented her with a choice: college or rent. Wendy chose independence.

“I left at 18 and never looked back,” Wendy recounts. “After that, I just figured I could do what I wanted because I did everything all on my own: my own decisions and my own failures and everything.“

Arriving in New York City, Wendy needed to make a living. This need led her to explore the world of stripping. “I needed a job when I came to NY. So eventually I started stripping. My parents would be so proud,” Wendy jokes, reflecting on her unconventional path.

“I never felt uncomfortable about showing my body,” she explains, highlighting a key aspect of her comfort and confidence. “And I knew that no one could touch me so I was fine with that. I drew a clear line and never stepped over it.”

Building New York Pole Dancing Studio: A Vision of Empowerment

Wendy’s time as a stripper was not just about survival; it was a strategic step towards her entrepreneurial dreams. Saving diligently, she launched her own business in 2005: New York Pole Dancing Studio. She envisioned a space where women could discover strength, build community, and explore the art of pole dancing. Attracting some of New York’s most talented pole dancers, including her sister Tracy, Wendy’s studio became more than just a business; it became a movement.

While she acknowledges that running NYPD hasn’t been as financially rewarding as stripping, Wendy’s passion for pole dancing and its power to empower women drives her. She recognizes the unique bonding experience pole dancing fosters, as women collectively challenge their physical limits and celebrate each other’s progress. This sense of community and shared achievement is central to the New York Pole Dancing Studio experience.

The Climb and Spin Method: Prioritizing Safety and Progression

Wendy’s commitment to excellence extends to the methodology taught at New York Pole Dancing Studio. She meticulously refined the Climb and Spin method, ensuring it is accessible for beginners while providing a clear pathway to advanced techniques. Safety is paramount at NYPD. Unlike some other studios, New York Pole Dancing Studio mandates a testing process before students are allowed to attempt invert moves, underscoring Wendy’s dedication to student well-being.

“I am trying to protect the students’ safety,” Wendy emphasizes. Addressing any perceived competition, she adds, “Some people see a rivalry between New York Pole Dancing and other studios, but I feel there’s room for everybody.” Her focus remains on fostering a safe, supportive, and high-quality learning environment at her New York Pole Dance Studio.

Drop-in Classes and Wendy’s Continued Influence

New York Pole Dancing welcomes students of all skill levels with drop-in classes, making pole dancing accessible to everyone. Beyond the studio, Wendy remains an active performer, gracing events such as the Northwest Championship, Schtick a Pole In It, and the Pulse Project’s Sirens 2 with her talent. Currently, her primary focus is split between nurturing New York Pole Dancing Studio and developing the Climb and Spin method into a recognized industry standard.

Regardless of where her entrepreneurial journey leads, Wendy Traskos has firmly established herself as a true pioneer in the world of pole dancing. Through New York Pole Dancing Studio, she continues to inspire and empower individuals, solidifying her legacy in the fitness and dance community.
