Resolving Missing DLL Errors: DirectX_9 Upgrade
In 2011, an upgrade to DirectX_9 or later became necessary. This link provides access to the required DirectX runtime, compatible with Windows XP through Windows 10.
The DirectX runtime is now hosted on Google Drive by VPVP.
Important!
Most computers already have a newer DirectX version installed. However, simply updating to the latest version won’t resolve “missing DLL” errors in MMD. MMD requires specific, older DirectX files not included in default updates. If you encounter the “missing dll problem”, you must install the redistributable package provided here. This installation will not overwrite your newer DirectX version.
Fix “Cannot find MMDxShow.dll” Error
Download MMDxShow.dll Zip from Reggie
For “Cannot find MMDxShow.dll” errors, try this fix: Rename your existing MMDxShow.dll file (as a backup). Then, download the MMDxShow.dll from LearnMMD.com and place it in the DATA folder within your main MMD directory.

Download PMX/PMD Editor (English Version)
PMDE/PMXE are powerful tools for model editing in MMD, allowing you to adjust existing models or create entirely new ones.
While PMD Editor version 039 by ibozo remains a recommended earlier version available on dA, PMXE ver. 0254f is now the preferred choice.

Remember to UNBLOCK the zip file before extracting its contents (right-click, Properties, and check “Unblock”).
Note: PMD Editor development has been discontinued. PMXE is the actively developed successor, supporting advanced model formats and offering enhanced features. It’s recommended to learn PMXE and convert your models to .pmx format. The link above provides the English translated version 0254f. For the original Japanese version or to check for newer releases, visit the PMXE Japanese homepage.

Reggie Dentmore provides the original Japanese MikuMikuEffect V037 files, enhanced with English translation files and installation instructions.
While not a full English translation of MME, this package makes it much more accessible. The Read Me file includes a link to the original Japanese source page.
Important: Match MME bit version (32-bit or 64-bit) to your MMD version. Mismatched versions will not function.

Blender: Advanced 3D Modeling Software
Blender is a professional-grade, free and open-source 3D creation suite. It’s powerful but complex, suitable for users with some 3D experience. Blender supports the entire 3D pipeline, including modeling, animation, and rendering.
For Blender tutorials, search online. LearnMMD cannot provide Blender support as it falls outside our primary MMD focus.
If you use Blender, consider downloading MMD TOOLS for Blender. Refer to the MMD Tools homepage and online resources for information. LearnMMD’s Blender-related content is limited to model-making tutorials.

MikuMikuMoving (MMM) is an alternative animation software to MMD, offering unique features. While MMM doesn’t play PMM animation files, it uses the same motion and model files as MMD.
