The Kearney High School Dance Catz have achieved a historic milestone, clinching their first-ever State Dance Championship. This landmark victory saw the Kearney Dance Catz capture the Class A High Kick title at the state competition, marking a pinnacle achievement for Kearney High School.
This triumph is the culmination of unwavering commitment, rigorous training, and exceptional teamwork displayed by the Kearney Dance Catz throughout the season. Their dedication went beyond just one title; the team also demonstrated their versatility and skill by securing 5th place in the fiercely competitive Hip-Hop Division.
Kearney Dance Catz State Champions
Adding to their accolades, the Kearney Dance Catz were honored with the prestigious Academic Excellence Award, showcasing their commitment to both athletic and academic pursuits. The team achieved an outstanding weighted GPA of 3.83, proving their dedication extends beyond the dance floor and into the classroom.
Coach Meggie Rusher shared her immense pride in the team’s accomplishments, highlighting their character and relentless effort:
“These girls embodied the spirit of champions long before they took the stage. Their success is a direct result of countless hours of dedicated practice, unwavering perseverance, and a deeply rooted team bond. I am incredibly proud of these young women. I firmly believe that true success is built upon character and a positive team culture. This team not only performed with exceptional skill but also conducted themselves with grace, respect, and humility. They consciously cultivated a supportive and uplifting dance team environment while honing their skills in the sport they are passionate about. They are true champions in every sense of the word. Witnessing their heartfelt performances and seeing their dreams realized was an unforgettable experience. It still feels somewhat surreal.”
Coach Rusher further reflected on the mutual learning experience with her athletes, particularly the senior members:
“These athletes, especially our remarkable group of five seniors, have been as much teachers to me as I have been to them. Our seniors are an exceptional group of young women and leaders – I have full confidence in comparing them to any senior group nationwide. This championship is a testament to every single member of this team, from our freshmen to our seniors. All sixteen members believed in each other and the power of unity, which propelled them to this success. They have redefined the standard for what it means to be a Kearney Dance Cat.”
She also extended gratitude to the supportive community surrounding the team:
“We are immensely thankful to our parents for their unwavering love and support throughout this journey, and to the fans who showed up to cheer us on. It was evident that Kearney had the largest and most enthusiastic fan base there – Bearcat Nation was truly well-represented! A special thank you to the KHS administration for their continuous support of our program.”
