Navigating the world of dance competitions can be exciting, and at ten-dance.com, we’re committed to ensuring a positive and confidence-building experience for every dancer. A key aspect of this is our carefully designed competitive levels. These levels are structured to group dancers of similar experience and training together, fostering a fair and encouraging environment where everyone can shine. Understanding these levels is crucial for studios and dancers alike to ensure proper placement and maximize enjoyment at our Energy Dance Competition events.
Understanding Our Competitive Levels for a Fair Energy Dance Competition
Our competitive levels are thoughtfully designed to provide a platform where dancers can compete against peers with comparable skill sets. This approach is fundamental in nurturing confidence and self-esteem in young performers. During registration, dance studios play a vital role in assigning an appropriate competitive level to each dancer. Our registration system then automatically determines the competitive level for each routine based on the individual dancer levels within the group.
It’s important to note that studio classifications may differ from our defined divisions. For instance, a studio’s “Level 1,” “Level 2,” and “Level 3” might not directly correspond to our Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3. It’s even possible that dancers with less training at your studio might not meet the criteria for our Division 1.
To guarantee accurate level placement, we strongly encourage studios to thoroughly review our level descriptions and assign dancers accordingly. This collaborative effort ensures a competitive atmosphere that is both equitable and enjoyable for all participating dancers at our energy dance competition.
Division 1 (Novice): The Perfect Starting Point for Your Energy Dance Competition Journey
Division 1, previously known as Star, is tailored for dancers who dedicate a maximum of 3 hours per week to dance classes, including rehearsal time. This division is the ideal entry point for dancers who are new to the competitive dance scene and are beginning to familiarize themselves with stage performance in front of judges and audiences.
- Focus: Introduction to competition and stage experience.
- Skill Development: Dancers are developing fundamental performance skills, including stage presence, basic technique, spacing, and timing.
- Experience Level: Typically dancers who are at the beginning of their competitive dance journey. It’s a welcoming space for newcomers, although first-year competitors are not required to start at this level.
- Awards & Recognition: Division 1 routines are adjudicated and eligible for high score awards within their division.
- Routine Limit: Dancers in Division 1 can participate in a maximum of 6 routines, excluding line/productions, at our energy dance competition.
Division 2 (Intermediate): Building Momentum in Your Energy Dance Competition Experience
Division 2, formerly Power, is designed for dancers who train up to 5 hours per week, encompassing both classes and rehearsal time. These dancers have progressed beyond the novice stage and are cultivating a stronger grasp of dance technique and performance quality.
- Skill Level: Dancers demonstrate above-average technical skills and increasing stage comfort.
- Experience Level: While dance may not be their sole focus, they have achieved a solid level of competence and confidence in their performances at an energy dance competition.
- Skill Spectrum: Division 2 often includes a broad range of skills, abilities, and experience levels among dancers.
- Awards & Recognition: Division 2 routines are adjudicated and eligible for high score awards within their division.
- Routine Limit: Division 2 dancers can participate in a maximum of 9 routines, excluding line/productions, at our energy dance competition.
Division 3 (Advanced): Excellence in Energy Dance Competition
Division 3, previously EnerGy, is reserved for dancers who dedicate more than 5 hours per week to intensive dance training. These are advanced dancers with substantial experience in competitions and performances, often spending multiple days per week honing their craft.

- Commitment Level: This division is well-suited for dancers who are deeply committed to their dance education and consistently strive for excellence in the energy dance competition arena.

Dynamic Division: Celebrating Every Dancer’s Passion at Energy Dance Competition
The Dynamic Division is a special category created for dancers with special needs who wish to express their love for dance in a supportive and encouraging environment at our energy dance competition.
- Inclusive Environment: Designed to be welcoming and nurturing, celebrating the joy of dance for all abilities.
- Adjudication: The Dynamic Division uses the same adjudication breakdown as Division 1, focusing on encouragement and positive feedback.
- Dedicated Awards: This division has its own overall category and is eligible for special awards and judge’s awards, recognizing the unique talents of these dancers at our energy dance competition.
- Accommodations: Studio owners can provide notes during registration regarding any accommodations that would enhance the dancer’s confidence and performance experience. Accommodations may include adjustments to music volume, lighting levels, or performance scheduling. Please contact [email protected] with any questions regarding accommodations, and we will gladly work to make arrangements.
Solo, Duet/Trio, and Group Level Placement in Energy Dance Competition
- Solos: Dancers will compete in the division in which they are registered by their studio.
- Duet/Trios and Groups: To ensure fair competition in group routines at our energy dance competition, the following rule applies: If 40% or more of the dancers in a duet/trio or group are registered at a higher competitive level than the remaining dancers, the entire routine will be placed in the higher division. For example, a small group of 9 dancers with four Division 3 dancers, three Division 2 dancers, and two Division 1 dancers will compete in Division 3.
- Division 3 Dancer Restrictions: Division 3 dancers are not permitted to compete in routines in Division 1. If a Division 3 dancer is registered in a routine with Division 1 dancers, the routine will automatically be moved to Division 2, and may be moved to Division 3 depending on the overall level distribution within the group.
Upgraded Routines: Ensuring Accurate Placement at Energy Dance Competition
During the energy dance competition, our experienced judges may identify routines that appear to be under-placed in their registered division.
- Judge Upgrade: If all judges concur that a routine is competing below its appropriate level, they may upgrade the routine to the more suitable division.
- Studio Notification: The show director will make every effort to inform the studio director if a routine is being upgraded before the award ceremony.
- Adjudication for Upgraded Routines: If the higher division has already completed its competition and received overall awards, the upgraded routine will be adjudicated for scoring and feedback purposes only, but will not be eligible for overall awards in the higher division.
- Final Decisions: All decisions regarding routine upgrades are final to maintain the integrity and fairness of the energy dance competition.
By understanding our level divisions and placement guidelines, you can help us create a positive and rewarding energy dance competition experience for every dancer. We look forward to seeing you shine on stage!
