Dancing Gallery Workshops for Primary and Secondary Students

Our dancing gallery workshops are thoughtfully structured for various age groups, ensuring an enriching and age-appropriate experience for everyone from early years to secondary students. Students will delve into the world of art, responding to visual stimuli and translating their understanding into expressive dance movements. These workshops are designed to foster individual creativity and collaborative skills as students work together to create meaning through dance. We offer a range of thematic focuses to spark imagination, including:

  • Colour: Exploring the emotional impact and visual dynamics of colour through movement.
  • Shape: Manipulating body shapes to mirror and interpret forms found in artwork.
  • Texture: Engaging with the tactile qualities of art through body percussion, touch, and expressive gestures.
  • Shifts in Time: Representing concepts of time, seasons, and historical periods through dance narratives.
  • Movement in Art: Analyzing and embodying the implied motion and energy within static artworks.
  • Nature and Place: Connecting artistic representations of nature and landscapes with dynamic movement.

Teachers are encouraged to join the creative process, although their primary role is to supervise and manage the class, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment throughout the one-hour session. All necessary materials are provided for each workshop.

Pricing:

  • $250 per class (1 hour)
  • $200 per class for equity/country schools (1 hour)
  • Classes are divided into groups of up to 15 students per session to ensure personalized attention and optimal engagement.

All our dancing gallery workshops are also available as an Outreach program, bringing the enriching experience directly to your school. As Jessie McKinlay notes, “Sometimes kids don’t really look at works of art, but dance interpretation allows kids to really engage even without the language to talk about it.” Unlock your students’ artistic potential and deepen their understanding of art through the dynamic language of dance.
