Was That Really Ryan Reynolds Dancing? Meet the ‘Dancing Deadpool’ Star

Fans were thrilled and surprised by Deadpool’s slick dance moves in the opening scene of Deadpool & Wolverine, but Ryan Reynolds is setting the record straight – that wasn’t entirely him busting those grooves. While Reynolds embodies the Merc with the Mouth in every other aspect, the fancy footwork was thanks to choreographer Nick Pauley.

In a scene that quickly went viral, Deadpool is seen dispatching Time Variance Authority officers while flawlessly executing the iconic choreography from NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye.” The clip had fans wondering if Reynolds had secretly been hiding some serious dance talent. However, Reynolds himself has humbly clarified that the dance magic was the work of the talented Nick Pauley.

“There’s the moments where there’s a bit of a pop and lock,” Reynolds admitted at a press conference, acknowledging the dance sequence. He humorously added, “Except the pop really pops, like it cracks, and the lock will not unlock — so yeah, I would do anything I could to free myself up. I will hang [my hat] on Nick Pauley’s talent and thank him for his contribution and services.” Reynolds openly credited Pauley for bringing “Dancing Deadpool” to life.

Pauley himself acknowledged the praise, posting an Instagram reel where he recreated the “Dancing Deadpool” choreography. He expressed his gratitude to Reynolds, saying it was the “greatest honor of my life” to be entrusted with bringing “Dancepool” to the screen. This behind-the-scenes detail adds another layer of fun to the already highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine.

Beyond the buzzworthy dance sequence, Deadpool & Wolverine has smashed box office records, debuting with a staggering $205 million domestically. This impressive opening marks the biggest of the year and signals a potential resurgence for superhero films, especially after a somewhat lackluster 2023 for the genre. The film’s success is undoubtedly fueled by the star power of Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, alongside the excitement of it being Marvel Studios’ sole cinematic release this year.

With the movie exceeding expectations and Reynolds giving credit where credit is due for the “Dancing Deadpool” scene, Deadpool & Wolverine is proving to be a significant moment for Marvel. It’s not just a win at the box office, but also a reminder of the collaborative effort and hidden talents that contribute to the movie magic we see on screen.
