My journey with dance began right here in Newton. Growing up, I attended Claflin, Peirce, Day, and Newton North schools, and like many young dancers, I dreamt of opening my own dance studio. My senior yearbook quote, “All I ever needed was the music and the mirror and the chance to dance for you!” from A Chorus Line, perfectly captured that dream. After graduating from Bowdoin College in Maine in 1995, I returned to Newton, determined to make that childhood dream a reality. In the fall of 1998, All That Jazz opened its doors, marking the beginning of a 25-year adventure in dance education and community building.

My vision for All That Jazz was born from my own experiences as a young dancer. While I loved dance, I didn’t always find my dance class environments to be as supportive as they could be. Despite the tears and challenges, my passion for dance persevered. This personal journey shaped my commitment to creating a different kind of dance studio. From day one, I wanted All That Jazz to be a haven of positivity and inclusivity. I envisioned a space where young dancers could escape the pressures of everyday life, leave their stress at the door, and simply immerse themselves in the joy of movement.
