Like many rhythm game enthusiasts, I was excited to try playing Crypt of the NecroDancer with a Dance Pad. After setting everything up, I immediately ran into an issue that’s hindering my experience: unintended pauses triggered by the corner buttons on my dance pad. Even after remapping the pause function to a keyboard key within the game’s settings, pressing any corner button on the dance pad still pauses the game.
Initially, I attempted to use the “dance pad code” mentioned in the official FAQ to get combos working. However, this method didn’t resolve the pause issue. As a workaround, I resorted to JoyToKey to map the directional buttons of my dance pad to keyboard inputs. While this allowed me to perform basic actions like placing bombs and initiating attacks, the problem with the corner buttons pausing the game persists. It seems the large ‘A’ button in the top-right corner is particularly problematic, causing accidental pauses whenever I try to move right, which is incredibly frustrating. Interestingly, the initial button mapping was also skewed, with the right input registering as up, suggesting a deeper input configuration issue.
To address this, my primary request is to implement an in-game option to select specific input modes: keyboard-only, dance pad/gamepad/joystick-only, or the current hybrid mode which accepts input from both simultaneously. This is a fairly standard feature in many games and would be immensely helpful. Having input source selection would not only solve my dance pad pausing problem by allowing me to disable input from the unwanted corner buttons, but also benefit other players using JoyToKey or similar key-mapping software. It would ensure that only the intended buttons on their peripherals trigger actions within the game.
Currently, I see no way to disable input from the ‘A’ button or other corner buttons on the dance pad that might cause unintended actions. If anyone in the community has found a workaround or has suggestions, I would greatly appreciate hearing them. Ultimately, a dedicated input selection option within Crypt of the NecroDancer would significantly improve the dance pad experience and provide greater control for players using alternative input devices.
