At the Grainger Academy, a dedicated Dance Lab within The Joffrey Ballet School, we are committed to nurturing dancers of all levels. Our comprehensive programs are designed to provide a robust foundation in dance, fostering both technical skills and artistic expression. We offer a range of opportunities to enhance your dance journey, from personalized private lessons to mastering the art of pointe work, and even sharing the gift of dance with others.
Personalized Dance Lab Experience: Private Lessons
For students seeking focused, one-on-one instruction, our private lessons offer an unparalleled opportunity to accelerate their progress. Available at the discretion of our Artistic Team and contingent on regular class attendance, these sessions are tailored to individual needs and goals. To request private lessons within our dance lab environment, students or parents can complete the Private Lesson Request Form. Please note that the lesson fee encompasses studio rental, administrative costs, and the instructor’s expertise. To ensure a focused learning environment, observation and video recording are not permitted. Students should check in at Reception before each session. Lessons are billed on the morning of the scheduled day, and any cancellations or modifications require 24-hour notice to our Student Services Specialist to avoid charges.
Maintaining Punctuality in the Dance Lab Studio
Respect for studio time and the learning environment is paramount at the Grainger Academy dance lab. Punctuality is crucial for dancers to properly warm up and prepare their bodies, minimizing the risk of injury. Students arriving more than 10 minutes late to class may be asked to observe rather than participate, ensuring their safety and the flow of the class. We encourage all students to arrive on time and ready to engage fully in their dance education within our dedicated lab spaces.
Pointe Work: A Milestone in Classical Ballet Training within our Dance Lab
Pointe work represents a significant step in classical ballet training, and at the Grainger Academy dance lab, we approach this advancement with careful consideration. Our Artistic Team and faculty are the sole determiners of a student’s readiness for pointe, evaluating factors such as foot and ankle strength, leg and core stability, and a solid understanding of classical ballet technique. Students interested in pointe work should not purchase pointe shoes before receiving official approval from our expert instructors within the dance lab setting. We prioritize the safety and long-term development of our dancers, and therefore, students under 11 years of age are not considered for pointe work, as early initiation can be detrimental. For students aged 7 and above aspiring to pointe work, we strongly recommend enrolling in at least two ballet technique classes per week to build the necessary foundation in our supportive dance lab.
