Find Your Rhythm: Why Pole Dance is the Workout in Vogue

When life became a monotonous cycle of work, I realized I desperately needed an outlet. My days blurred into weeks, each mirroring the last, dominated by professional obligations. This rigid routine was a stark contrast to my upbringing, which was filled with diverse physical activities. From gymnastics and dance to soccer and track, movement and joy were intertwined in my youth. I knew I needed to rediscover that connection and reignite my passion for physical expression, seeking something different to motivate my body and bring back the joy of movement. I was looking for a way to Dance In Vogue and reclaim my physical self.

Years prior, I had briefly explored pole dancing and recalled enjoying the unique workout, but the cost of consistent classes was prohibitive at the time. Now, with newfound financial stability from my first post-college job, it felt like the opportune moment to revisit this alluring fitness form. My search for the perfect studio led me to Brooklyn’s Finest Pole Dancing, a welcoming space nestled on Carroll Street. Its convenient location, just a five-minute commute from my apartment, was only the beginning of its appeal. The studio exuded an intimate and supportive atmosphere, where Vel Francis, the owner, offered personalized attention to each student. More than just a workout, Vel’s studio sessions felt like therapy, fostering a sense of community amongst a diverse group of women. We bonded during warm-ups, sharing snippets of our lives. It became clear that this shared space was a collective exhale, a sanctuary for blowing off steam after work or carving out precious me-time after family commitments. Stepping into this studio was a liberation. It was a space divorced from the pressures of my job, family, or social circles—a realm of possibility where I could focus solely on my personal goals: physical strength, emotional release, and community connection.

Driven by enthusiasm, I enrolled in Vel’s beginner class, attending three times a week for three transformative months. As my skills progressed, I eagerly transitioned to intermediate/advanced and spin pole classes. Even before moving up, I would often linger after my beginner sessions, captivated by the advanced class, studying their fluid movements and envisioning myself one day executing those impressive tricks. During trips home to Chicago for holidays or long weekends, I made it a priority to visit Fly Club Chicago, my cherished pole haven away from home. There, I was always greeted by Divine Em and Caitlin Marco’s infectious energy and a diverse array of classes that kept me engaged and challenged.

My growing obsession with pole dancing fueled a noticeable increase in both physical strength and self-assurance. The unwavering support and encouragement within the pole community is unlike anything I’ve experienced; they are your biggest cheerleaders! But beyond the physical gains, pole dancing became a profound source of healing. It was more than just a workout; it was a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, all while allowing me to dance in vogue with confidence and joy.
