Austin Dance India (ADI) stands as a leading organization in Austin, Texas, dedicated to promoting and preserving the rich tradition of Bharata Natyam, a classical Indian dance form. Under the artistic guidance of Anuradha Naimpally, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer, ADI has become a vital resource for dance education, performance, and community engagement in Central Texas for over two decades. Recognized for its significant contributions, the City of Austin officially declared October 22nd as Austin Dance India Day, a testament to ADI’s enduring impact and service to the community through Dance For India and beyond.
Celebrating 25 years of enriching Austin’s cultural landscape in 2016, Austin Dance India marked this milestone with innovative initiatives that fostered community participation and artistic collaboration. A highlight was ADI’s inaugural Dance-A-Thon and Community Fair, an event designed to engage diverse audiences and celebrate the spirit of dance. Furthermore, ADI ventured into interdisciplinary arts by co-producing “Living on the Hyphen” at the prestigious Long Center. This unique play explored the relatable experiences of navigating multiple cultural identities, a theme deeply resonant with Naimpally’s artistic vision and her commitment to using dance for india to bridge cultural understanding.
The students of Austin Dance India, including its accomplished alumni, graced the stage of The Long Center with an original production titled “Girl Power!”. This dynamic multi-art performance incorporated spoken word, music, and video alongside dance to spotlight the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. By focusing on Gender Equality and Quality Education, “Girl Power!” exemplified ADI’s commitment to using dance as a platform to raise awareness about critical global issues and contribute to positive social change, truly embodying the spirit of dance for india and the world.
Austin Dance India offers comprehensive Bharata Natyam classes, nurturing students from beginners to aspiring professionals. ADI’s core mission is to empower individuals and communities through the transformative power of dance. Please note that Austin Dance India is currently closed for enrollment.
