Your Role in Expanding Dance and Community Engagement
As a Community Action Manager (CAM) at Gibney, you will be at the heart of our Community Action department, playing a pivotal role in coordinating initiatives focused on gender-based violence prevention and youth empowerment. This position offers a unique blend of administrative responsibilities and direct engagement with our impactful community programs, Hands are for Holding® and Move to Move Beyond®. You will work alongside a passionate team, including the Senior Director of Community Action, the Deputy Artistic Director of Community Action, and talented Community Actionists (our teaching artists).
Your core responsibilities will include managing a team of 6–10 Community Actionists, fostering strong relationships with our Community Action partners, and meticulously managing data collection and program evaluation. This is a hybrid position based out of Gibney’s 280 Broadway location in New York City, requiring you to be in the office three days a week and offering remote work flexibility for the remaining two days. The standard working hours are Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, with occasional evening commitments depending on program needs.

- Data Management: Overseeing data collection, entry, and reporting for institutional and city funders, crucial for demonstrating our impact and securing continued support.
- Marketing Liaison: Collaborating with the Marketing Department to create and share promotional materials for social media and email campaigns, amplifying our reach and impact.
- Deliverables Tracking: Supporting the tracking of program deliverables to ensure we meet our fiscal year goals and commitments.
- Administrative Meetings: Participating in weekly Community Action administration meetings and supporting special events related to our programming.
Hands are for Holding® (HAFH) Program Management
Hands are for Holding® is a vital program focused on violence prevention. As CAM, you will be integral to its success by:
- Partner and Team Meetings: Attending partner meetings and weekly HAFH team meetings, taking detailed notes, and providing administrative support to the HAFH team.
- Workshop Casting: Coordinating and communicating workshop casting with Community Actionists once workshops are confirmed and scheduled.
- Team Communication: Facilitating communication regarding meetings, trainings, and workshop debriefs to the Community Actionist team, in collaboration with the Deputy Artistic Director of Community Action.
- Payroll and Payments: Managing Community Actionist payments, ensuring accurate tracking, timely submission, and distribution of pay receipts.
- Partnership Support: Assisting the Senior Manager of Partnerships and Senior Director of Community Action in nurturing and maintaining Gibney’s partnerships with schools and organizations across New York City and nationally.
- Calendar and Logistics: Creating detailed HAFH calendar events with essential information like dates, times, locations, partner contacts, confirmed team members, and special notes.
- Information Management: Transferring crucial partner information from partner forms into calendar events and communicating relevant details to the HAFH team.
- Hiring and Training Support: Participating in the hiring process for Community Actionists and supporting the logistics of their training sessions, attending trainings as needed.
- On-site Support: Providing on-site support at in-person workshops to facilitate partner communication and address technical needs.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining the HAFH COMPDOC with updated Actionist fees and data required for mid-year and final reports for funders.
- Deliverables Tracking: Supporting the tracking of program deliverables specific to HAFH.
Move to Move Beyond® (MTMB) Program Coordination
Move to Move Beyond® focuses on empowering youth through movement and creative expression. Your role in this program includes:
- Workshop Scheduling: Supporting the coordination and communication of the movement workshop schedule with Community Actionists, working closely with the Community Action Coordinator.
- Scheduling Collaboration: Collaborating with the Community Action Coordinator to balance scheduling between MTMB and HAFH workshops, optimizing resource allocation.
- Payment Processing: Managing Community Actionist payments for MTMB, ensuring accurate tracking, timely submission, and distribution of pay receipts.
- Budget Management: Tracking MTMB Actionist expenses to ensure the program stays within budget.
- Grant Reporting Support: Collaborating with the Development department and CA team to provide necessary data for grant reports, showcasing the program’s impact.
- Team Meetings: Attending weekly MTMB meetings, taking notes, and providing administrative support to the MTMB team.
- On-site Workshop Support: Providing on-site support at in-person MTMB workshops to address technical needs.
Move to Move Beyond Storytellers
This unique component of MTMB focuses on deeper narrative development and performance. Your responsibilities here are:
- Schedule Coordination: Coordinating the overall schedule for MTMB Storytellers, including in-person and virtual gatherings, rehearsals, and performances, in collaboration with the Creative Director of Learning and Leadership.
- Rehearsal Communication: Communicating the rehearsal schedule effectively to the MTMB Storytellers.
- Vision Support: Contributing to the overall program vision in collaboration with the Senior Director of Community Action and Creative Director of Learning and Leadership.
- Storyteller Payments: Managing payments for each Storyteller, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Event Attendance: Attending evening gatherings and rehearsals as needed to support the program.
Research Support
