Artists Simply Human (ASH) Dance Convention is renowned for igniting passion and fostering growth in young dancers. For our team, attending the ASH convention marked a significant highlight of the season, especially as it was the first ASH experience for our newest members, Lucas and Penny. While we’ve participated in smaller conventions before, the energy of being at ASH with the entire team is truly unparalleled, creating lasting memories and fostering team spirit.
One of the most rewarding aspects of attending ASH is the opportunity for our dancers to learn from exceptional faculty members like Matthew Smith. Matthew has been an integral part of our studio’s growth for five years, enriching our dancers with his choreography and masterclasses. As part of the ASH faculty, his presence at the convention provided a unique chance for our students to continue their dance education under his guidance and for Matthew to witness firsthand the remarkable progress of our dancers over the years. He has known Lucas for five years and has seen his consistent improvement, making moments like Lucas being selected for filming in class particularly special and a testament to his dedication.

The Ash Dance Convention isn’t just about learning; it’s also a platform to celebrate achievements. We were incredibly proud when Lucas’ solo, “Ultralight Beam,” received a Judge’s Choice award, recognizing his exceptional performance and artistry.

Adding to the accolades, our all-boys contemporary piece, “Somebody,” received the prestigious True Artists Award and was selected for the Studio Selections Performance Showcase. This incredible honor gave them the opportunity to perform during the closing show, a moment of immense pride for our studio and a fantastic experience for the boys.

The ASH experience wasn’t limited to the young dancers. Even the moms joined in the fun, taking Matthew Smith’s Hip Hop class. While our execution might have leaned more towards aerobic exercise than perfect choreography, it was a blast to share the dance floor and experience the energy of ASH firsthand.

For Penny, this ASH Dance Convention was doubly special. Not only was it her first team convention, dancing alongside her teammates and big brother, but she also won her very first scholarship! This achievement is a wonderful recognition of her talent and potential, and we are excited to see her continue to grow.
