My Unexpected Career in Business Analytics: A Journey of Learning and Leadership

This is the story of my professional life, primarily focused on my journey as a Banker for almost 18 years, working within two major financial institutions. My expertise lies in Business Analytics, specifically in Measures & Metrics.

While my career path didn’t begin in Data Analytics, I found myself increasingly drawn to this field. Initially, I believed my strength was in Retail Banking Operations. However, my perspective shifted in 2005 when I joined a Fraud Analytics team as an Analyst. It was then I realized I possessed an analytical mindset and the capacity to develop the necessary skills for this domain. Life took a beautiful turn when I became a mother, not once, but twice. Motherhood naturally shifted my career to the side for a while. I continued working, but my professional ambitions took a less aggressive trajectory as I embraced and enjoyed raising my children.

While motherhood was fulfilling, a desire for significant career growth began to resurface. I explored various avenues and found a way to re-engage with the world of Analytics. I discovered the determination to dedicate my weekends and evenings to intense work and study.

My learning journey began, and I use the present participle “learning” intentionally because I believe learning is a continuous, lifelong process. I value formal education and structured learning environments, but I also recognize that learning happens everywhere, every day, not just within classrooms.

Returning to my narrative, I started focusing on learning the analytical tools that would make me more competitive for the roles I was seeking. Simultaneously, I began to cultivate something equally important: “Networking.”

In the past, I had been focused on my immediate tasks and maintained a friendly but somewhat reserved professional demeanor. I came to understand that to truly succeed, I needed to go beyond this. I needed to be able to connect with people effortlessly, find common ground, and build a strong network both within and outside my organization. As I actively started networking, I found myself surrounded by individuals who inspired me, motivated me, and believed in my potential. These connections became the pillars of strength I needed to move forward.

Today, I am proud to lead a successful team, yet my passion for learning and growth remains as strong as ever. My career aspirations have grown alongside my experiences. I am fully committed to nurturing this ambition, now and in the years to come.

My goal is to become an Impactful Woman Leader in my field, and I am dedicated to making that vision a reality.
