Everywhere you look, from the bustling streets of Hongdae alive with impromptu performances to the flawlessly synchronized choreographies of Kpop idols, dance is unmistakably in the air. For enthusiasts of movement and rhythm, 1million Dance Studio is a name that resonates globally. Renowned artists and aspiring dancers from across the world flock to this studio, drawn by its incredibly talented and dedicated choreographers and dancers.
As someone with an athletic background as a former college volleyball player, yet admittedly lacking formal dance training, the prospect of stepping into such a celebrated studio was initially daunting. Watching the captivating videos showcasing the studio’s dancers, their intense passion and commitment are palpable. The question arose: could I, without that level of expertise, even participate? However, being in Seoul presented a unique opportunity, one that many only dream of. Taking a leap of faith, I decided to attend a class with a friend from Yonsei University, a regular at 1Million.
The journey to the studio is a quick thirty-minute trip, and upon arrival, you’re immediately immersed in an undeniably cool atmosphere. Any initial nervousness quickly dissipates as you observe a diverse mix of individuals, all skill levels welcome, united by a shared enthusiasm for dance. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned professional, 1Million fosters a sense of community and a genuine love for the art form. The class I participated in was an energetic eighty-minute hip-hop session. It was a fantastic workout that pushed me far outside my comfort zone, yet it transformed into an experience I’ll cherish indefinitely. I had the pleasure of connecting with amazing people, learning from a choreographer with celebrity status, and truly experiencing the communal spirit that defines this prominent dance institution.

That was the mantra I repeated to myself, and it proved to be incredibly rewarding.
