Maximize Your Dance Success: A Guide to Celebrity Dance Competitions

Please read carefully. Failure to comply may result in loss of points or disqualification. By entering Celebrity Dance Competitions, you accept all policies and guidelines set forth.

Competition Admission

Audience admission for all regional Celebrity Dance Competitions events is complimentary. We believe in making dance accessible and enjoyable for everyone, fostering a supportive environment for our talented performers.

Competition Rules: Ensuring Fair Play and a Positive Environment

To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all participants at our Dance Celebrity Competitions, we have established a clear set of rules. Adherence to these rules is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the competition and promoting a respectful atmosphere.

  • Unlimited Entries Per Studio: Studios are welcome to showcase their diverse talent with no restrictions on the number of entries per studio. We encourage broad participation to celebrate the richness of dance.
  • Family-Friendly Content is Essential: All routines must be suitable for family viewing. Music, choreography, and costuming should be appropriate for all ages. Content deemed inappropriate for minors may result in point deductions. We prioritize creating a wholesome environment where dancers of all ages can shine.
  • Teachers Showcase, Not Compete: To maintain fair competition among students, teachers are not permitted to compete in regular categories. However, teachers are invited to perform in our Showcase category, offering inspiration and entertainment.
  • Multiple City Participation Welcomed: Dancers are encouraged to broaden their experience and may compete in more than one city. This allows for diverse feedback and performance opportunities across different regional events.
  • Safety First: Prop Restrictions: For the safety of our dancers and staff, dangerous props such as fire, glass, or swords are strictly prohibited. General props that enhance performances are permitted, provided they are used safely.
  • No Live Animals or Scenery: To ensure the well-being of animals and manage stage logistics, live animals and elaborate scenery are not allowed. Focus should remain on the dancers’ skill and artistry.
  • Clean Stage Policy: Studios are responsible for ensuring the stage is clean after their performance. This includes removing all props and any debris to maintain a pristine performance space for all. No helium balloons, loose feathers, or loose glitter are permitted due to cleaning and environmental concerns.
  • Designated Stage Entry and Exit: Dancers must use the wings on either side of the stage for entry and exit. Entry or exit from the front or back of the stage is not permitted to ensure smooth transitions and stage management.
  • Supportive Audience, No Coaching: While enthusiastic support is encouraged, coaching from the audience is not permitted. Judging is based solely on the performance on stage, and external coaching can be disruptive and unfair.
  • Scheduled Performance Order: Routines must perform in their scheduled order unless prior permission for a change is granted. This ensures the competition runs smoothly and on time.

Venues: Professional and Dynamic Performance Spaces

Celebrity Dance Competitions utilizes professional equipment at all venues to enhance the performance experience. Stage and venue sizes may vary by location, so we encourage studios to contact Celebrity for specific measurements of the performance area at their chosen event. Hotel venues may involve stage entrances via stairs. Be aware that effects such as lighting, strobes, and smoke are commonly used during events to create an exciting atmosphere. Participants sensitive to these elements should consider this when attending Celebrity events.

Critiques: Valuable Feedback for Growth

Competition score sheets and routine critiques are valuable tools for dancer development. These will be available for pickup at Celebrity & Company and will be provided exclusively to the teacher or studio owner. By participating in Celebrity Competitions, you acknowledge that all decisions made by our panel of judges are final, ensuring fairness and impartiality.

Awards: Recognizing Excellence in Dance

All entries at Celebrity Dance Competitions are adjudicated by a panel of three qualified judges. Awards are presented at Platinum, High Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze levels, celebrating a range of achievements. Platinum, High Gold, Gold, and Silver award winners earn eligibility to compete at the prestigious Celebrity Nationals. Bronze award winners are also invited to perform at Celebrity Nationals for critiques only, providing a valuable learning opportunity on a larger stage.

Acrobatic Limitations: Balancing Dance and Acrobatic Skills

To ensure categories maintain their core dance focus while still allowing for impressive skills, some categories have limitations on acrobatic elements. An acrobatic skill is defined as any gymnastic-based exercise including handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, handsprings, aerials, tucks, layouts, or any air-based flipping maneuver. Partner lifts, illusions, and floor rolls (like seat and shoulder rolls) are not considered acrobatic skills for these limitations. Ballet routines strictly prohibit acrobatic skills. Jazz, tap, lyrical, and contemporary routines are allowed up to three (3) acrobatic skills. All other categories have no restrictions on acrobatic skills. Tumbling passes are counted as a single skill. For example, a continuous running roundoff back handspring into a back tuck is considered one acrobatic skill.

Music: Digital Submission for Efficiency and Eco-Friendliness

Celebrity Dance Competitions is committed to environmental responsibility and efficiency. All competition music must be uploaded online at least 5 days prior to the event through your secure Celebrity Online Account. Please ensure you also bring backup copies on a USB drive as a precaution. Music tracks must be cued to the start and ready to play. Music submissions on CDs, phones, tablets, or computers will not be accepted. It is crucial to test your music files before the competition begins. Music delays due to technical issues may result in a 5-point deduction.

Singing: Microphone Usage Guidelines

Live microphones are permitted exclusively in the Song & Dance and Production categories. Celebrity will provide up to two (2) handheld wireless microphones for these categories. The use of personal live microphones or tapping into the venue’s sound system is not allowed in any other category. Live singing without microphone amplification is permitted in all other categories where it is appropriate and enhances the performance.

Ties: Fair Resolution Procedures

In the event of a tie in scores, ties will be resolved through a multi-tiered system. Technical scores will be the primary tie-breaker. If a tie persists, routine scores will be considered. Should a tie remain after these measures, the final decision will rest with the judges, ensuring a fair and comprehensive evaluation.

Tour Calendar: Flexibility and Scheduling

Celebrity Dance Competitions reserves the right to adjust the tour schedule at any time due to unforeseen circumstances or logistical needs. This includes potential changes to dates, times, and venues. Regional competitions may commence as early as 8:00 AM on Friday and potentially conclude by 9:30 PM on Sunday. While we strive to adhere to this timeframe, unique time constraints may occasionally require events to operate outside these hours. In such instances, we will make every effort to notify studio representatives during scheduling. The final schedule is determined by event size and logistical factors.

Schedule: Accessing Your Personalized Competition Information

The finalized competition schedule and Welcome Packet will be accessible through your Celebrity Online Account, powered by DanceEra, at least 10 days prior to your event. Dancers who have previously attended a Celebrity Event or already have a Celebrity Online Account will receive an email notification when the schedule is available. New participants can easily create an account by selecting the REGISTER button or by CLICKING HERE. This same account provides access to complimentary photos and videos from the event, as well as medal rankings post-competition.

Hotels: Preferred Accommodation Rates

Celebrity Dance Competitions secures partnerships with select hotels to offer preferred rates for our guests. These hotel options are conveniently listed under each event location on our website. Some rates may include a rebate that benefits Celebrity, helping us continue to provide high-quality events.

Conduct: Maintaining a Respectful Environment

All dancers and audience members are expected to conduct themselves appropriately at all times. This includes maintaining respectful behavior in dressing rooms, backstage areas, on stage, and within the audience. We are committed to fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere for all participants and attendees.

Photo & Video: Capturing Memories Professionally

To minimize distractions and ensure high-quality recordings, guests are not permitted to take photos or videos during routines at Celebrity Regional Events. Instead, Celebrity provides complimentary professional photos and videos for download through Celebrity Dancer Accounts. Dancers will have access only to media from the routines they are registered in. Please note that photos and videos will not be available for pickup at the event itself but will be accessible for download approximately 5 days after the event concludes.
