Disciplines Offered at NRG Dance Project Competitions
Nrg Dance Project competitions showcase a wide array of dance styles, allowing dancers to express their versatility and passion. Whether you specialize in classical techniques or cutting-edge contemporary styles, there’s a category for you to shine on the NRG dance stage. Here’s a breakdown of the disciplines you can expect to see at our events:
Core Dance Styles
- Ballet: Routines in this category must highlight ballet or pointe technique, emphasizing classical form and grace.
- Jazz: Get ready to energize the stage with jazz technique! These routines feature up-tempo music and dynamic movements that showcase the vibrancy of jazz dance.
- Contemporary: A fusion of styles, contemporary routines blend jazz elements with a strong foundation in modern and ballet techniques. Expect expressive and innovative choreography.
- Lyrical: For routines that tell a story through movement, lyrical dance combines jazz and ballet techniques set to ballads. Emotional expression and narrative are key in this category.
- Tap: Rhythmic complexity takes center stage in tap routines. Dancers showcase intricate footwork and percussive artistry.
- Hip Hop: Bring the street to the stage with hip hop routines! This category embraces hip-hop and street-style moves, encouraging high energy and personal style.
- Musical Theatre: Step into the world of Broadway and theatre dance styles! Musical theatre routines capture the theatrical essence of dance performance.
Open Category
- Open: Unleash your creativity in the Open category! This discipline welcomes any dance style or combination of styles, offering a space for unique and experimental performances. For routines incorporating significant gymnastic or acrobatic elements, the Open category ensures appropriate evaluation. Routines containing more than three (3) gymnastic/acro passes must be entered in the OPEN category.

Rules and Regulations for Participation
NRG Dance Project is committed to providing a fair and enjoyable competitive environment for all participants. To ensure a successful event, please review the following rules and regulations carefully:
Competition Eligibility
- Workshop Registration: All dancers participating in the competition MUST be registered for the NRG workshop in the same city. This ensures that all competitors are engaged in the full NRG experience.

- Non-Studio Registrations: Studios registering fewer than 10 dancers will still receive adjudication (Platinum, Gold, etc.) and category placement (1st place, Contemporary solo, etc.). However, overall placements and CASH Awards are reserved for studio registrations meeting the 10-dancer minimum.
- Multiple Entries: Dancers are welcome to compete in as many categories as they wish, allowing them to showcase their diverse talents.
- Soloist Placement Limit: Soloists performing multiple routines will be eligible for only one placement in Top Solo Cash awards.
- Teacher Participation: Teachers are not permitted to perform with students in competition routines.
- Professional Dancer Status: Professional dancers are welcome to compete but are not eligible for cash awards, regardless of age. The determination of professional dancer status is at the discretion of NRG Directors.

- National Prodigy Solo Restrictions: National Prodigies are permitted to compete their solo only at their designated home city where their studio is attending.

Thursday & Friday Competition Scheduling
Competition start times on Thursday and Friday may vary. It is possible for competitions to begin as early as 7 am, starting with solo performances.
