Dust off your poodle skirts and slick back your hair because we’re throwing a 1950s-style Sock Hop party you won’t want to miss. Join us for an afternoon filled with classic tunes, fun activities, and community spirit as we celebrate Older Americans’ Month in style with a fantastic Sock Hop Dance event.
Step Back in Time with the Sock Hop Dance
This isn’t just any dance; it’s a sock hop dance! Get ready to show off your best moves on the dance floor. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or just love to tap your feet to the beat, our sock hop is the perfect place to let loose. Participate in our exciting dance contest to showcase your skills and maybe even win a prize! Beyond the sock hop dance floor, we’ll have games, prizes, delicious food and beverages to keep you energized, and health screenings to help you stay on top of your well-being. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with valuable community resources and meet your neighbors, all while enjoying fantastic entertainment.

Every May, the Administration for Community Living spearheads Older Americans’ Month (OAM), and we at the Wyandotte/Leavenworth Area Agency on Aging and Disability Resource Center are proud to celebrate May 2024 as Older Americans’ Month with this special sock hop event. We believe in promoting flexible thinking about aging and recognize the immense benefits when older adults remain active, independent, and fully included in our community. Our annual Sock Hop is a joyful way to honor these contributions and encourage engagement.
