Huu Rock’s dance odyssey began in Kochi, Japan, where he immersed himself in the foundational elements of B-boying as a member of the esteemed Spin Crew. This early experience instilled in him a profound appreciation for the discipline and artistry inherent in street dance. His relocation to New York City marked a pivotal moment, exposing him to an expansive spectrum of dance styles, musical expressions, and the vibrant cultural contexts that nurtured these art forms. It was in the electrifying dance scene of NYC that Huu Rock truly found his stride, embracing the city’s diverse offerings with open arms.

During this transformative period, Huu Rock connected with Ejoe Wilson, who became a pivotal mentor, significantly shaping his artistic trajectory. Joining Wilson’s company, Beyond Phenomenon, Huu Rock embarked on a deeper exploration of dance, refining his personal style through diligent study of pioneering figures. He absorbed the innovative techniques of dance icons such as Tone McGregor, Sekou Heru, Marjory Smarth, Buddha Stretch, Kim Holmes, Brian Green, Jazzy J, Mike Ufouria, Caleaf, Shan S, and Cebo. His education extended beyond formal settings, flourishing in the spontaneous and collaborative environments of parties and social dance gatherings, where he learned directly from the source.

Demonstrating his commitment to fostering community and providing accessible dance education, Huu Rock launched Hiphop Wednesdays in 2013, followed by House Mondays in 2016. These open-format dance sessions were designed to welcome dancers of all proficiency levels, creating inclusive spaces for learning, practice, and exchange. Further expanding his collaborative endeavors, MELLOW ANIMALS was co-founded in 2014 with fellow dancer Riceball. Together, they initiated Battle 101, a dynamic dance battle event that celebrates a wide spectrum of movement styles, reinforcing their dedication to inclusivity and the celebration of diverse dance forms.
