Join us for a night where the High Line transforms into an open-air dance floor, bringing together New Yorkers and visitors alike. ¡Arriba! is a long-standing tradition, and this year, Nieves Latin Dance Studio, a premier New York City dance institution, will be providing expert salsa dance instruction. Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, Los Hacheros will bring their electrifying live salsa performance, while DJ Mickey Pérez sets the mood with a dynamic mix of international dance music. This free, intergenerational event welcomes dance enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
The evening unfolds with a carefully curated schedule:
- 6 – 6:15pm: DJ Mickey Pérez kicks off the night with a set of invigorating salsa music.
- 6:15 – 6:45pm: Nieves Latin Dance Studio takes the stage to lead an engaging and accessible salsa lesson, perfect for all skill levels.
- 7 – 7:15pm: DJ Mickey Pérez returns with another set to keep the energy high.
- 7:15 – 8:15pm: Los Hacheros, renowned for their authentic Latin sound, deliver a captivating live salsa performance.
- 8:15 – 9pm: DJ Mickey Pérez closes the night with an international dance music set, ensuring the rhythm continues until the very end.
¡Arriba! is designed to be an inclusive and accessible event. The venue is fully covered, making it a rain-or-shine occasion. In the event of extreme weather conditions that may compromise safety, the program will be canceled, with notifications sent to Eventbrite registrants and updates posted on the High Line website and social media channels. DJ Mickey Pérez, a Brooklyn-based DJ with Cuban & Ecuadorian roots, has been energizing New York City dance floors since 2008. His eclectic sets span diverse dance music styles from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Brazil, and Black America, reflecting a truly diasporic sound.
Los Hacheros, hailing from Brooklyn, are celebrated modern torchbearers of the Golden Age of Latin music. They revive classic styles like son montuno, guaracha, and salsa, often blending them with the vibrant Bomba rhythms of Puerto Rico. Their music is a dynamic interplay of instruments and rhythms that embodies the heart of Afro-Cuban music.
